dIGGING FOR MAKU
In 2020, Bella commenced an Internship at Ernabella Arts Centre in the APY lands, which continues to influence her practice. Bella explores the figure in desertscapes, touching on themes of intimacy and connectivity and the fragility and transience of self. The extraordinary beauty of the ever-changing sand dunes and tranquillity within the landscape form dialogues of the ephemeral cycle of life, death, and decay, posing questions about connection to space and the transience of nature.
Uroboros (2020) portrays an evocative narrative of grief. Through a series of self-portraits, Bella captures the intimate realm of personal experience, reflecting on physical vulnerability and the fleeting nature of joy. This deeply personal collection evokes shared experiences of loss and anguish in our sociological connections and relationships with others.
