Digging for maku

In 2020, Bella commenced an Internship at Ernabella Arts Centre in the APY lands, which continues to influence her practice.

Bella explores the figure in desertscapes, touching on themes of intimacy and connectivity and the fragility and transience of self. The extraordinary beauty of the ever-changing sand dunes and tranquillity within the landscape form dialogues of the ephemeral cycle of life, death, and decay, posing questions about connection to space and the transience of nature.

Bella’s ongoing series, ‘It Runs Deep,’ is a collection of works in which Bella explores the red riverbed, weaving narratives that speak to the resilience of human nature and the inextricable link between identity and environment. Through her work, Bella invites the viewer to pause, reflect and engage with the subtle whispers of the world around us.
